North Devon Tourist Attractions
Mullacott Farm is lucky to be in a region with so
much to do. Those active souls amongst you might like to hire a bike
and cycle the Tarka Trail. Others may prefer water sports, golf, walking,
fishing or riding, all of which are well catered for.
However it may be that a gentle stroll around the harbour at Lynmouth
or along the cobbled roads of Appledore is more your style. Wandering
down the narrow streets of Clovelly is also very popular with holiday
visitors, although walking back up is not always treated with such
enthusiasm. There is also a huge range of other quality attractions to
choose from as well as markets, craft centres, pubs and restaurants.

outstandingly picturesque setting on a wooded spur above the rushing River
Okement. Begun soon after the Norman Conquest as a motte and bailey castle
with a stone keep, it was converted into a sumptuous residence in the 14th
century by Hugh Courtenay, Earl of Devon, much of whose work survives. After
the last Courtenay owner fell foul of Henry VIII in 1538, it declined into

Fremington Quay was important in the 19th and
early 20th centuries for import and export of china clay, coal and other
minerals all over the world. The thriving railway station fell into decline
in the 1960s when the rail link was closed. On the site of the old railway
station a replica station has been built, housing a visitor centre, café
and restaurant and a signal box that allows observation of the varied
wildlife. The site is now an RSPB reserve. Many rare species of birds are to
be found here and seals are to be seen at high tide. There are permanent
displays of Fremington's past, including the rare Fishley pottery, as well
as regularly changing exhibitions. The quay is accessed by a resurfaced road
running along the side of the estuary. A popular place for fishermen, it has

graduate of the Royal Academy of Arts; and hand painted - are symbols of joy
in the flowering of human activities at work and at play. |

An aging holiday resort which was at its best
during the Victorian era, although now is beginning to show a new life. The
Tunnels are passages hewn through the cliffs to a privately owned bathing
beach. The Victorians also built up walls between rocks to make two bathing
pools - One for ladies and one for gentlemen. There is a small charge to use
the Tunnel. |
